Romelu Lukaku has just been subbed off with ten minutes to go for Chelsea, and he received a welcome standing ovation from Stamford Bridge, who have had few opportunities to show their big summer signing some love.

Hopefully those goals – and that positive reception – will help the Belgian forward feel loved and appreciated. It feels like he’s been in a negative confidence spiral, and only something like this might be able to help.

It’s not the most meaningful of games, but anything that gives the crowd a chance to show they still haven’t give up on him is a real positive all round – and just why Tuchel picked him.

The only thing he might be disappointed by is the fact that he wasn’t given the chance to stay on and score a hattrick.

But given he’s not played many minutes in recent weeks, he might actually be a little relieved for the welcome break after a tough 80 minutes.
