The Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute (Swiss TPH) is a world-leading institute in global health with a particular focus on low- and middle-income countries. Associated with the University of Basel, Swiss TPH combines research, education and services at local, national and international levels. 900 people from 80 nations work at Swiss TPH focusing on infectious and non-communicable diseases, environment, society and health as well as health systems and interventions.
Within the Department of Epidemiology and Public Health (EPH), our Unit “Environmental Exposures and Health” (EEH) is focused on research related to the many environmental exposures: including air pollution, noise, airborne pollen, heatwaves, green space and electromagnetic fields.
We are looking for a PhD candidate in epidemiology (80-100%).

For this prospective epidemiological cohort study, we are currently recruiting 900 adolescents from 7th and 8th grade in Northwest and Central Switzerland with one year of follow-up. In a nested measurement study, objective sleep and personal RF-EMF exposure data is collected during one week.
You will work in a multidisciplinary team of several students and collaborators within Swiss TPH.
Together with the team, you will contribute to data collection including school visits.
For the PhD thesis, you will conduct data management and data analysis, write scientific papers and present your results at national and international scientific meetings.
Your work is part of an European consortium of similar children and adolescent cohort studies (GOLIAT: 5G expOsure, causaL effects, and rIsk perception through citizen engAgemenT).
For complimentary advanced education you will have the opportunity to register in the PhD program in Epidemiology/Public Health of the University of Basel and the Graduate Campus of the Swiss School of Public Health (SSPH+).
This PhD enables you to collect practical experiences in all aspects of complex epidemiological research.
