Dr. Raiyan at the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at the University of South Florida is currently recruiting several Ph.D. students to join their program in either Spring 2024 or Fall 2024. These positions offer full tuition and stipend support, with additional travel funds available for attending research conferences.
The research projects within the department will primarily focus on two areas. The first area involves developing technology to help individuals enhance their socio-cognitive soft skills, such as storytelling and negotiation. The second area centers around improving the collective performance of teams in terms of creativity, problem-solving, and intelligence. Furthermore, the department aims to develop interventions that address critical concerns in online social media, such as belief rigidity and polarization, through an interdisciplinary approach that combines cognitive, social, psychological, computer, and network sciences. The research will utilize qualitative and quantitative methods from computational social science, network science, machine/deep learning (particularly NLP), human-computer interaction, and affective computing. Ideal candidates for these positions will have a strong interest in conducting interdisciplinary research. Involvement in extracurricular activities such as debate, art & design, public speaking, writing, or voluntary fieldwork is considered advantageous.
