The Zimova Lab at Ohio University, Department of Biological Sciences, is currently seeking 1-2 graduate students (MSc or PhD) to join their research group in the Fall of 2023. The lab’s research focuses on quantifying the consequences of climate change for vertebrate populations and understanding the potential for evolutionary change to facilitate adaptation to climate change-related stressors. Their work integrates various tools and approaches, including intensive field surveys, analysis of museum specimens, high-resolution climate and environmental data, and advanced statistical modeling techniques.
Prospective graduate students who are interested in conservation biology, animal ecology, and/or evolutionary biology, and have relevant undergraduate coursework and/or field ecology research experience are encouraged to apply.
The selected student(s) will have the opportunity to work under the supervision of Dr. Marketa Zimova on a field-based research project related to seasonal camouflage mismatch in snowshoe hares. The students will develop strong skills in field ecology and quantitative analysis and will conduct reproducible research. All admitted students to the program will be provided with a guaranteed teaching assistantship, which offers a financial support ranging from $18,000 to $25,000 per year. This support is a combination of teaching and other assistantship opportunities. The lab is also willing to assist students with their NSF GRFP and other fellowship applications.
